What is coaching?

Coaching is about helping you-the client-create change in your personal or professional life. It's is an ongoing, powerful partnership designed to help you clarify and achieve what is most important to you. You may be feeling stuck and unable to even articulate your specific goals. Or you may have very specific goals that you are having difficulty achieving on your own. As a certified professional coach, Debra B. Taylor has the training, tools and resources to support you in identifying and reaching your goals.

How does coaching work?

If you feel that you are a good match after your sample telephone session, you and Debra Taylor will discuss which of her services best meets your needs. For example, one-to-one coaching, group coaching, or a workshop.

You will then receive a welcome packet to get started. This packet is designed to assist you in beginning (or furthering) the process of articulating your goals for the coaching work-what you want to create in your life. Most clients find the exercises illuminating and also fun!

The ongoing sessions, two or three times per month lasting 40 - 50 minutes, will be conducted in person if you are local or over the phone. You'll have "homework" after every session to deepen your learning and build momentum toward achieving your goals.

Creating change is a process of practice and application of new attitudes, skills and behaviors. It is recommended that clients commit to a minimum three to six month partnership to achieve lasting sustainable results.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching is not counseling or therapy. Coaching is forward-looking, future-focused, and action-oriented. Therapy tends to be focused on healing emotional issues from the past that are hampering an individual's current ability to function. Coaching focuses on learning, action, accountability and follow-through to achieve success and fulfillment.

Clients can work simultaneously with both a therapist and a coach. Many coaching clients have been in therapy in the past, or are currently in therapy to help them cope with caring for a family member with mental illness. It is a depressing and painful experience to watch a loved one deal with a mental illness. Therapy can help. Coaching can complement your therapeutic relationship in focusing again on your goals and life.

How can I tell whether coaching is right for me?

What is it worth to you to have a life in the midst of all your caretaking? Are you ready to commit to making changes that will make you feel more alive? What is the cost of not living your dreams?

Ask yourself if you are ready to make a commitment of time, energy and resources to create real change in your work or life. Coaching is an investment in your present and in your future.

If you are open to new perspectives and ready to take action towards your goals in collaboration with a trusted partner, coaching will a valuable investment.
